    Rosy Vega-Barrio

    The Board of Trustees named Mrs. Rosy Vega-Barrio superintendent of the Tornillo Independent School District on September 27, 2017. Prior to joining Tornillo ISD, Vega-Barrio served the Socorro Independent School District for 17 years as an elementary teacher, instructional specialist, assistant principal, and principal. 

    Mrs. Vega-Barrio graduated with honors from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in December of 1999 with a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Elementary Education and a concentration in Early Childhood Education. She went on to earn a Masters of Educational Leadership Degree with honors from UTEP in December of 2004. In 2018, she earned the Texas Superintendent Certification Program at Sul Ross State University.   

    Mrs. Vega-Barrio was born and raised in Tornillo, Texas, and graduated from Tornillo High School in 1993. She comes from a family that values education and service. One of five children, she along with her sisters and brother earned college degrees in the medical and education fields that have allowed them to serve and improve the lives of children.  Her father is a retired Chief of Police and her mother is a retired School Cafeteria Worker and lifelong residents of Tornillo. Mrs. Vega-Barrio has been married for 30 years and has 2 children.

    Mrs. Vega-Barrio returned to her hometown of Tornillo as a proud alumna to utilize her instructional and administrative experience to improve the lives of children and the community.  She is committed to bringing innovative programs that will allow all students to thrive in any competitive field of their choosing by assuring that all students will be reading at grade level by the third grade, have access to the best available technologies and academic/extra-curricular programs, be taught in an early college learning environment beginning in Pre-Kindergarten, and be taught by the best highly qualified teaching staff.   

    Mrs. Vega-Barrio looks forward to working with the Board of Trustees, Community, Staff, and students of Tornillo Independent School District by honoring the long history of traditions while building on its foundational standing to empower, innovate, and thrive as a nationally-renowned small school district.
